Project Baltia magazine will present a documentary shortfilm dedicated to a famous Russian architect and engineer V. Shukhov who introduced a structure as a basis of an architectural object. The topic is appropriate in the context of the rapid development of parametric architecture and digital design methods that we witness today. The movie will be introduced by a lecture from St. Petersburg-based engineer and architect Anton Smirnov who will actualize the topic in the current architectural context and explains all technical details to the audience.

"Inspired by Shukhov" is a documentary filmmaker Natalia Arshavskaya’s work done in the collaboration with young architects, artists and art historians Daria Kovaleva, Maxim Maleinos, Sergei Nebotov, Edward Hyman, Eugene Shirinyan, Nikolai Vasilev, Ana Norina and Vlad Nakoryakov. The film was shot in 2013 and was waiting for its time to be shown at film festivals. However, in light of the proposals for dismantling of the Shukhov Tower in Shabolovka, the director decided to put the movie in the open access.

This is a film about how the legacy of Shukhov affects the development of parametric and generative approaches of Russian young architects and artists. For the development of any culture it is very important to have long connections, when the ideas, concepts, technologies flow, mutate, hybridize, creating a powerful stream of positive change. That is why it is so crucial to keep the intermediator that ensures this development. For that purpose it is important to preserve the legacy of the genius of Shukhov.

Perhaps this film will provide additional thoughts on how important it is for experimenters and innovators to respect the legacy of our great inventors valuable to world culture such as Shukhov. Without it, we do not do anything new and substantial.

The movie will be introduced by a lecture from St. Petersburg-based engineer and architect Anton Smirnov who will actualize the topic in the current architectural context and explain all technical details to the audience.
