TAB home accommodation

TAB is offering home accommodation to our foreign guests to get a real insiders’ view of life in Tallinn. Based on the idea of the popular Couchsurfing we will connect TAB visitors with Tallinn locals, who wish to open their homes for guests. This great opportunity is for all the participants without any fees.

We are looking for local people to contribute to the project by getting involved as the host. There will be many international visitors with diverse backgrounds, all sharing the same interest - architecture, and participating in TAB. For the host we will provide the full benefits of the TAB volunteer package, including a free full festival pass, TAB tote bag and catalogue, invitation to all events, and the perfect chance to enhance your international network.

Would you like to stay in a villa in the leafy suburb of Nõmme or rather experience the Tallinn hipster hotspot Kalamaja? Here are a few options:

Nõmme

Riin offers to host guests at her house in Nõmme:
I have studied history and heritage conservation (PhD) and have been working for heritage since the beginning of the millenium. My primary interests has been vernacular architecture, historical suburbs and 20th century architecture.

I live in the suburb called Nõmme, 10 km from city center. Easily accesible with bus + 800 m walk in a milieu protection area.

My house was designed in 1953 by famous Estonian architect Edgar Velbri and built by a couple of sculptors Signe and Arseni Mölder. The house has preserved its original outfit and details and houses a collection of samples and test works depicting the process of creation. The house makes an architectural ensemble with a beautiful limestone terrace and a plot with 21 pinetrees.

Riin can accommodate 1-3 people for 6 or more days.

Kalamaja

Rain: Less privacy, more FUN! Come and experience the hipsterish-trendy-gayishly-silly-and-sexy, complex-free and shameless lifestyle by yourself! Step out of your comfort zone and discover your g-spot, sources of personal happiness and unique features of being truly an open-minded personality while staying in the hipsterish Kalamaja (Fish House) district of Tallinn, the mecca of bohemian well-being, at walking distance from Central Rail Station, Port of Tallinn passenger terminals, the seaside boulevard Culture Mile aka Kalaranna (under renovation till august 2015) and picturesque Old Town, the UNESCO World Heritage site!
We are workoholics, party-o-holics (mostly on weekends or just home/community parties, not mainstream!), travel-o-holics, socioholics city gardeners enjoying lust-driven communication and foodgasms tongue emoticon.

We have a living room guest/reading/relax corner and office space for your comfort to use. Situating in City Centre, 5–15 minutes walking distance from everything, good transport/connections: btw, the most touristic shopping-sightseeing-oriented bus line stops in front of the house taking you to shopping centres and main gates of Old Town.

Check out Rain's profile on Couchsurfing!

Apartment in Kalamaja

Jakob: No pets, just me and my brother live here. We have one room available most of the days. Apartment is great, close to old town and in nice quiet neighbourhood. We don`t have two separate rooms, just 1 room with 1 bed.

Maximum that we've had was 5 people who couchsurfed that room. 3 of them were sleeping on the floor.

At the moment we can`t provide hot water because the water heater broke down. :( So we have cold shower only. It is possible that we manage to fix it by that time.

A flat in city centre

Regina: It's a home of a hippy-esque architect/landscape architect and her daughter, an urbanist and IT fan, who also partly lives in Berlin.

The place is a colorful, multilayered mix that some people might find stuffed but the rest kind of a wunderkammer.
Two bedrooms, a kitchen-dining room and a living-room, the latter would be for the guests. There's two separate single couches, so it would suit a couple or two friends.

We've got no pets, sadly, and we don't smoke.
The house was built in 1964 for the railway union according to a unique project.

One side is to a noisy street but the other to a quieter court-yard (also the living-room).

Flat in beach suburb Pirita

Maarit Maria: I’m a mother, a sales manager, non-smoker (my guest could smoke on the balcony). I have an old Siamese cat. I love beaux arts, I have many books and pictures at home. I’m a blogger

Now in summer and in autumn 2015 I’m living alone, because my daughter studies in Glasgow. My home - apartment building (architect Vahur Sova) on Mähe street is situated in nice new Pirita area.

Pirita is the suburb of Tallinn located about 8 km north-east of the center of Tallinn, just 20 minutes by bus. Bus stop is 50 meters from my home. The biggest beach of Tallinn is 900 meters from my home.
